A couple weekends ago, my parents had a conference in Moab so we decided to drive down and piggyback on their weekend trip. It was the perfect little getaway and exactly what we needed. We got to hike, drive our new truck on some trails, and relax.

Portrait Photography
In my last post, I shared my favorite landscape photos from 2016. Like I said, my goal for 2016 was to take as many photos as possible and take my camera out frequently. I have always loved taking photos of people, but I was a little too afraid to actually do it and set shoots up. I decided to challenge myself a little and set a few up. Of course, I absolutely loved it. I never thought I would shoot a wedding, bridals, senior photos and take as many family photos as I did. But I’m so happy I got the opportunity to. So going into 2017, my goal is to try a little harder and photograph more portraits. I haven’t shared much of my work so I thought I would share some here. Let me know if you want to book a shoot 🙂
Favorite Photos 2016
One of my goals for 2016 was to improve my photography skills. I took my camera out as much as possible, even though it sometimes it’s the heaviest thing I’m carrying. I also upgraded to a professional grade camera this year and have been soooo happy about it. I have compiled some landscape and adventure favorites that I took this year! I had a hard time picking my top ten so it’s my top 40!
2016 Year in Review
2016 was an amazing year for us. We learned, loved, and grew. We hikes 200+ miles, spent 22 nights in a tent, and visited countless new places and drove too many miles to count. 2016 was full of adventure!
Fall Festivities
Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. The weather is the perfect temperature and all my favorite colors are present. We spent lots of time in the mountains throughout the season. I’m so sad that it is slowly coming to an end but am super grateful that it lasted as long as it did. Here is a compilation of our fall festivities; we hit the Alpine Loop (multiple times), Big Cottonwood Canyon, Squaw Peak Road, Cornbellies, and several other fun places.

Golden Throne
After our adventure at the Chamber of the Basilisk, we weren’t exactly sure what we wanted to do. We thought about doing Little Wild Horse or Ding and Dang Canyons but we talked to the ranger and he said there was quite a bit of water in the canyons. We weren’t prepared to be trudging through mud and water. Capitol Reef was only about 45 minutes away and it has become our go to place, so we decided we wanted to see it with the fall colors. Chamber of the Basilisk
Blake did some research on our fall break trip and found the best little rappel in Goblin Valley State Park. To get to the rappel, you head down the 40 stairs at the parking lot and into the goblins. There is a white dome that serves as your guide; walk toward the dome until you reach the base of it. There is a small wash that you will walk up until you reach the top of some hoodoos. There is a little scrambling to the webbing; looking down into the chamber is a little intimidating because you can’t see the bottom. The rappel is about 90 feet! Once in the Chamber of the Basilisk, it’s fun to look around and enjoy the amazing cave. This has become a popular trail and the rangers can give more information and better directions on a map there. [Read more…]
Little Grand Canyon
For Fall Break, which was a month ago (bad at blogging, I know!), we headed to the San Rafael Swell. Blake made a fun itinerary for us that included the Little Grand Canyon. It is located near Castledale; we followed the signs toward Wedge Overlook. Our goal was to get here by sunset and luckily we made it! The entrance and camping is free here which really added a bonus. There is also a bathroom so I appreciated that. We spent some time walking and driving around taking in all the amazing views. We found a nice picnic table and cooked up some carnitas tacos while the sun was going down. Not a bad place to enjoy some tacos! [Read more…]
Yellowstone
This was by far the best trip to Yellowstone trip I have ever had. My parents invited us to come along on a quick weekend trip to West Yellowstone. I have compiled a list of all that we saw and did. I have never seen as many animals as we did. We also made a whole loop of the park and did so much! I think we ended up seeing all the major sights. [Read more…]
Three Canyons One Day: Birch Hollow, Orderville Canyon, The Narrows
Blake planned an excellent canyoneering adventure months ago. Orderville Canyon is permit based, so as soon as permits were available he got online and reserved enough spots for us. Our friends, Jeremy and Caitlyn, were able to come with us. The trail head for Birch Hollow is located about 9 miles up the North Fork road; there is a small sign that says Birch Hollow and gives the canyon directions. The beginning of the hike required a little route finding and some bush whacking. The best thing to do in this area is simply follow the wash. It took us between 30-45 minutes to get to the first rappel. [Read more…]
