Fall is my favorite time to visit the desert. The contrast of the red rocks and the leaves changing is amazing! For fall break this year, we knew we had to get to the desert and backpack. Blake planned a fun weekend trip to Little Death Hollow. I usually like to help plan the trip with him but grad school is difficult and all consuming so I wasn’t able to really help. But this trip was perfect and a great escape from school. Little Death Hollow was pretty cool; we actually weren’t as impressed as we thought we would be (we aren’t desert snobs! It just wasn’t as slotty as we had imagined.).
The canyon starts really wide and eventually narrows up quite a bit. There was some unexpected standing water; Pancho hated it! The slot part of the canyon was really cool, we just wish it lasted longer. We camped about half way before heading up Wolverine Canyon. This canyon really surprised up, it was so beautiful and the colors were unbelievable! Before getting back to the car there is a crazy cool petrified wood forest. There was a petrified log that was about 60 feet long and had knots in it, so rad! The trail was about 22 miles long and was very fun.
